Steady in the Storm Week 4: He is With You in the Waiting

Life Moves Fast

Graduation season. Vacation plans. Grocery pickups. Morning traffic. School drop-offs. Even the good things can leave us breathless. We rush from one season to the next, often afraid that if we stop, we’ll fall behind. And yet—God repeatedly invites us into stillness. Not into laziness or disengagement, but holy stillness. A sacred pause.

Psalm 46:10 says, “Stop your fighting, and know that I am God, exalted among the nations, exalted on the earth” (HCSB). In the NAB, we read: “Be still and know that I am God.” It’s not a gentle suggestion. It’s a divine interruption.

Steady in the Shift

Waiting can feel like wasted time, especially when we're hoping for something to change. But in God’s economy, waiting is never wasted. It’s where trust is refined. Isaiah 40:31 reminds us, “But those who trust in the Lord will renew their strength.” Trust—active waiting—is not passive. It requires soul-deep faith. It asks us to keep praying even when the answer is delayed, to keep trusting even when the way isn’t clear.

In those in-between moments—between diagnosis and healing, between job loss and provision, between heartbreak and hope—we find a God who is already there.

What if We Remembered…

…that rest is not a reward for finishing everything on the list?

…that stillness is a form of surrender?

…that God is not panicked about our timelines?

Maybe you’ve graduated—but don’t feel ready. Maybe your children are grown—and you’re wondering what’s next. Maybe your kids are home for the summer-- and you're already overwhelmed. Maybe you’re just tired—and afraid to stop moving. Wherever you find yourself, God is not absent. He’s not waiting for you to “get it together.” He is present in the pause, and His presence is the promise.

Final Thought

This week, make space. Sit with Psalm 46. Let the truth that God is with you in the waiting settle into your bones. He isn’t just the God of the breakthrough—He’s the God of the middle. The slow. The still. The in-between.

Don’t rush past what He’s doing in this moment.

Let Him steady you right here.
