The Waiting Wasn’t Wasted: Hope in God’s Promises Fulfilled

There’s something sacred about waiting—especially when you’re holding on to a promise that hasn’t come true yet.

Maybe you’ve been there? I know I have.

After I graduated college (and got married, and lived in Germany for a year and a half.), I was ready! Ready to take the publishing world by storm. I dreamed of being a magazine editor—writing, planning, editing, creating. I had the degree, the passion, and the unpaid experience. But no job offers. No interviews. Just a whole lot of waiting.

So I took a job at a daycare center. Then I became the assistant director. Then came a role as a car jockey at a car dealership (yes, really), followed by sales floor receptionist, and eventually title clerk. Every position was valuable—but none of them were the one I’d prayed for.

I felt stuck in the “Saturday” of my story—the space between the promise and the fulfillment. The hope was still there, but buried under disappointment, delays, and a whole lot of wondering.

And then—2½ years later—I finally got the call. An interview! A job offer! A real chance to step into the role I’d dreamed of all along.

What I didn’t expect? The car dealership offered to match the editor’s salary to keep me. They saw my value. But I had waited for this promise. And God delivered. I left with joy and walked right into the season I had been praying for.

In Luke 24, the women arrive at Jesus’ tomb expecting to tend to a body—what they found instead was an empty grave.

“He is not here; He has risen! Remember how He told you…” (Luke 24:6–7)

God keeps His Word. Every single promise. Every single time. Even if it takes longer than we’d hoped, and definitely if it didn't happen as soon as we wanted.

If you’re waiting right now—on a calling, a breakthrough, a restoration—don’t lose heart. Hope didn’t stay in the grave. The silence isn’t the end. And your faith-filled waiting isn’t wasted.

God is still fulfilling His promises—sometimes in quiet ways, sometimes in miraculous ones. And when He does, it will be worth every doubt, every tear, every step, every stumble, and every moment you trusted Him through even your darkest night.
