Steady in the Storm: When Everything Changes, God Doesn’t

Graduation season always gets me. Not just because of the caps and gowns, but because of what they represent—change. Real, deep, life-will-never-be-the-same kind of change.

I’ve watched my son cross milestones I absolutely was not ready for. From kindergarten tears to high school diploma cheers, every step forward tugged on my heart. And if I’m being honest, I wasn’t sure how to stand steady when everything around me felt like it was shifting.

That’s when I come back to one verse I cling to more than most: “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” – Hebrews 13:8

It’s a short verse, but it is weighty with truth. Especially in a world that feels like it’s spinning faster every day.

👟 Life Moves Fast

One day you’re tying their shoes.

The next, you’re getting ready to ship them off to the military or college.

But it’s not just the graduates feeling the shift:

It’s parents adjusting to empty rooms.

It’s teachers wrapping up another year wondering if they made a difference.

It’s young adults trying to figure out what’s next… while quietly battling waves of doubt.

And through it all, God does not change.

🌤️ Steady in the Shift

I’ve had seasons where I clung to that truth like a life raft. The days when “what now?” echoed far louder and longer than hope. The mornings when my to-do list was longer than my energy, which happens far too often. The milestones that felt more like a goodbye than a celebration.

And yet… I was never walking alone.

The same God who carried me through past changes met me in every new one.

💬 What If We Remembered?

What if, instead of dreading changes, we remembered the One who never changes?

Instead of bracing for what might go wrong, what if we trusted the One who is already in our tomorrow?

I don’t know what this season holds for you.

Maybe you’re celebrating.

Maybe you’re grieving.

Maybe you’re somewhere in between, and that's me.

It is all bittersweet. Maybe we need to focus less on the bitterness and more on the sweetness.

But I do know this: Jesus Christ hasn’t changed. And He won’t.

💛 Final Thought

So, as you watch someone you love toss a cap into the air—or you’re standing on the edge of your own next chapter—take a deep breath and know it is well with your soul.

The scenery may change, but your Savior does not.

Hold on to Him.

And know that He is holding on to you.
